We concluded our spring season of the Slovak Singers
with a Slovak pot luck supper.  As always the meal is the highlight - everyone brings their best dishes.  Steve Krajcir always brings the delicious cheesecake from Sima's complete with the Slovak Crest on the top.  We thank Dave Broskowski
for bringing his keyboard to make us sound better.  Come
and join us next fall.   (Schedule on Coming Events page.)

Tom Trochta is our grounds keeper at  the Slovak Museum.  He takes good care of the lawn and in winter clears the snow.
The daffodils were planted by the late Ivan Uher.  He always liked flowers and this  is a good memory of him.  A thank you to Ann Sidlik, Eunice Kubash, and the late Dr. Jurishica for their donations to the museum.  NOTE:  We are still looking for old photos of members.
  On Thursday, July 10, 2008 a naturalization
ceremony was held at the  Cudahy Historical
Society's Depot and Immigrant Family Park.
Many Slovak immigrants got off the train here
and settled in Cudahy 100 years ago.
This is the first time such a ceremony was per-
formed outside the Milwaukee County Courthouse.
Judge Rudolph Randa administered the oath for
50 new citizens of the United States.
Left to right are: Milwaukee County Supervisor
Pat Jursik who acted as mistress of ceremonies,
Mr. Jursik, Judge Randa, WSHS treasurer

 Museum  News
Open on August 3, 2008

Below:  Some of the guests
who came to the museum.

This plaque is from a team of Sokol members from Lodge 96
in Cudahy Wisconsin.  They
competed in a Slet in Chicago
in 1916.  This is one of a very
few historic pieces that Lodge 96
has, and it is on displayin
our museum!

Above are some of the new pictures which are now on
display in the museum.

Above are some of the other new
items which have been
sorted and displayed.  Many
of these came in a box from
Dr. Jurushica's House.
Does anyone recognize the
hanging on the left?  It was
embroidered in 1938.

There was quite a bit of flooding and damage at the Czech/Slovak Museum and Library in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Their website has pictures and a slide show on the activities going on to salvage and preserve as many things as possible.
