The Slovak Singers ended 2009 with
a potluck dinner as usual.  After dinner
it was time for a group picture.  It is sad to think that this may be the last one since the group is on hiatus until/unless a new leader is found.
The Singers all enjoy digging into the
food table looking for favorites that some
members bring regularly as well as
trying different items looking for new
favorites.
It takes a lot of energy to do all that singing
so everyone is busy fueling up!

food and fellowship

KeithLencho and Bozema Cierny came from
Chicago. (at keyboard--Dave Broskowski,
rear--Keith & Bozema, Darinka Kohl & John
Koniar)  The traffic in Il was so bad they didn't get there til 7:45.  They had a few songs, but the singers missed out on their brinzove halusky.

     December Museum open house.
Visitors "getting acquainted"
with the displays.
How do we look?
These are really nice clothes.

Darinka Kohl with Ludo and Shirley Vretenar
who came to see if we needed any help.

Darinka Kohl made oplatky for the
open house.  Guests were able taste this Slovak delicacy.
After you make the oplatky you have to taste it.
Marillyn Evaska, Anna Trochta, Olga Uher and
darinka gladly complied.
President, Tony Jurik served George Evaska
some of the freshly made oplatky.

The old way of making oplatky was with this iron which weighs about 15 pounds. The iron had         lifted into the fire.   The museum was decorated very nicely
for the occasion.  There were FIVE trees
which brightened up the colorful displays.
Two trees flanked the wood Nativity Scene.
The Scene is complete with shepherds, kings,
animals and angels.

A WSHS float in the St. Francis, WI  Day Parade in the fall of
1980.  The team of Belgians and wagon were provided by
driver, Ludo Vretenar.  Seated beside him is his wife, Shirley.
The accordionist is Rudy Kotras.  People in the wagon (left to riight)
are: Clayton Kohl, Jim Hron, Anna Trochta, Rose Hron, Vlasta Hron
Allen Hron, John Trochta and Darinka Kohl. They sang along the
parade route to entertain the viewers.
This ticket was donated to our museum by  Jerry and Marge
Kopas of Nixa, MO.  Marge found it while sorting through
her mother's belongings.  Marge grew up in Boyceville and
Jerry in the Connorsville area of Dunn County.
